Role and Responsibilities of Reviewers
Reviewers play a vital role in maintaining the academic quality and credibility of the Journal of Performance Management. Their evaluations help editors make informed decisions and assist authors in strengthening their research.
Reviewers are expected to provide objective, constructive, and professional assessments based on scholarly merit.
Principles of Peer Review
Reviewers should:
- Evaluate manuscripts fairly and impartially
- Maintain strict confidentiality
- Declare any conflicts of interest before accepting a review assignment
- Complete reviews within the agreed timeframe
- Inform the editor promptly if they are unable to conduct the review
Personal criticism of authors is inappropriate and should be avoided.
Evaluation Criteria
Reviewers are encouraged to assess manuscripts using the following criteria:
Originality and Contribution
- Does the manuscript present novel ideas or findings?
- Does it make a meaningful contribution to the field of performance management?
Literature and Theoretical Foundation
- Is the literature review current and comprehensive?
- Is the theoretical or conceptual framework appropriate and well-developed?
Research Methodology
- Is the research design suitable for the study objectives?
- Are data collection and analytical methods rigorous and clearly explained?
- Are validity and reliability adequately addressed?
Results and Discussion
- Are findings presented clearly and logically?
- Are interpretations supported by the data?
- Does the discussion relate findings to existing knowledge?
Practical and Policy Implications
- Does the study provide useful implications for researchers, practitioners, managers, or policymakers?
- Are recommendations supported by the findings?
Quality of Presentation
- Clarity and readability of the manuscript
- Logical organization and structure
- Accuracy of references and citations
- Quality of tables, figures, and supplementary materials
Reviewer Recommendations
Based on their assessment, reviewers should recommend one of the following:
- Accept
- Minor Revisions
- Major Revisions
- Reject
Review reports should include detailed comments for authors and, where appropriate, confidential comments for editors.
Ethical Responsibilities
Reviewers must adhere to the highest ethical standards.
Reviewers should:
- Maintain confidentiality of all manuscript materials
- Avoid using unpublished information for personal benefit
- Report suspected plagiarism, duplicate publication, ethical concerns, or research misconduct
- Disclose any potential conflicts of interest
- Conduct reviews objectively and professionally
Review Timelines
To support efficient publication, reviewers are expected to:
- Accept or decline review invitations within 5 days
- Submit completed reviews within 2–4 weeks
- Notify the editorial office if additional time is required
